Fun Homemade Recipes for Playdough, Bubbles and Bake-able Clay

Fun Homemade Recipes for Playdough, Bubbles and Bake-able Clay
These are great recipes for homemade bubbles, play dough and bake-able salt clay.  Fun activity for birthday parties or for keeping kids busy this summer.
BUBBLE MIXTURE
1 Cup Water
1/3 Cup Liquid Dishwashing Soap
2 Tablespoons light corn syrup
Combine ingredients. Use bubble blowers or experiment with different objects – anything with a hole will work. Hangers bent into circles, slotted spoons, etc.

PLAY DOUGH
2 Cups Flour
1 Cup Salt
4 teaspoons Cream of Tartar
1 ½ to 2 Cups Boiling Water
3 Tablespoons Vegetable Oil
Food Coloring
Boil water and add in oil and food coloring. Mix in flour, salt, and cream of tartar.
Mix well. Drop mixture out onto wax paper and knead. The dough will smooth out as you knead it.
Store in an airtight containers.

PEANUT BUTTER PLAY DOUGH (Edible)
½ Cup Peanut Butter
½ Cup Honey
1 Cup Powdered Milk
Mix all ingredients and knead until smooth.  Use cookie cutters to make fun shapes.

BAKE – ABLE SALT CLAY
Combine:
2 Cups Flour
1 Cup Salt
1 Cup Cold Water (may need a little more)
2 Tablespoons cooking oil
Optional: Food coloring (color dough before baking)

Knead well until you can form a smooth ball. Then roll out the clay with a rolling pin and cut shapes with cookie cutters, or mold into shapes by hand. Place on a cookie sheet lined with foil and bake for 1 hour at 300 degrees – or until the shapes are hard. Paint with acrylic paint and then finish with a coat of clear spray paint or shellac to make them last a long time.

Ideas: Before baking make a hole at one end for key chains and jewelry.  Make ornaments, refrigerator magnets, animals or anything you can imagine.

Funky Flip – Flops – Great Craft for Parties

Funky Flip – Flops – Great Craft for Parties

Need a great craft for birthday parties, slumber parties, end of the year parties or anything in between? How about making some funky flip – flops.  Girls of all ages love them … kids, tweens or teens!  They are easy and inexpensive to make.  The perfect summer craft and party favor rolled into one.

1.  Buy cheap solid color flip flops.  Buy cotton fabric (or use fabric scraps) in different shades and patterns that blend well together.  For each pair of flip flops you will need approximately 1/4 of a yard of combined material.  (We have also made these using old t-shirts).

2.  Cut strips of fabric approximately 1″ wide x 8″ long.  For younger kids cut the strips 5/8″ wide and 6″ long.  You’ll need about 35 strips per flip – flop … 70 for the pair.

3.  Place a fabric strip underneath the top part of the flipflop and bring the two edges together so they are even.  Tie the fabric onto the top of the flip flops and then knot it one time.  Tug the strips so the two pieces fall forward – toward the front of the flipflop.  Repeat until the entire top of the flip – flops are covered.

My daughter made these because her school colors are black and red.  Make yours with bright yellows, reds, aquas and greens – or any color that matches your theme.
